Сhurch schism behind the Urals
A major church scandal erupted in the Yekaterinburg diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church this week. Nikolai Romanov, known as Shihigumen Sergiy, locked himself in the convent and continued to denounce the church leadership. Taking over the monastery by the shihigumen was committed in response to the ban imposed on him by the church authorities after the scandalous speeches of Romanov with calls for rebellion and obscurantist slogans. Shihigumen Sergiy is the confessor of famous personalities such as hockey player Pavel Datsyuk, comedian Dmitry Sokolov and several others.
Mr. Romanov went too far in his obscurantism, beginning to demand mass protests from citizens, to call for rebellion and a law-enforcement coup. The slogans of the priest are obviously obscurantist and ultra-conservative. Their implementation will lead to the collapse of industry and the economy, the public administration system. For example, among other things, Mr. Romanov demanded that the churches be opened in quarantine and quarantine measures lifted. However, it is clear that in this situation, such measures will lead to a jump in the incidence and mortality of a serious illness. The developmental options proposed by the priest concerned the government, which probably did not dare to directly arrest the extremist in the cassock, but gave the corresponding instruction to the Russian Orthodox Church.
The indecision of the authorities is explained by the fact that, firstly, arresting Romanov will inflict a serious blow on the authority of the church. Secondly, it is obvious that the shihigumen has many followers inside the church, and his arrest will cause them discontent, which can lead, on the one hand, to a serious conflict with the church, and on the other hand, to a conflict inside the Russian Orthodox Church and weakening the institution on the whole. Thirdly, the shihigumen has serious patrons among capitalists and in power structures. So, for example, the land for a monastery in Sredneuralsk was taken away from local farmers. Sredneuralsk itself is located near the town of Verkhnyaya Pyshma, where the headquarters of the Ural Mining and Metallurgical Company, which are controlled by Kozitsyn and Altushkin, is located. These gentlemen, by the way, forced the construction of the sensational church in the center of Yekaterinburg.
The situation with Nikolai Romanov shows us the state of the church and the processes taking place inside the ruling class. The Russian Orthodox Church is the backbone of the ruling class and the state, while the church actively preaches obscurantism and reactionary ideas. For capital and the church, progress today means only one thing – death. It is probably for this reason that entrepreneurs share with the clergy funds that go to the construction of monasteries, and the “spiritual leaders” in return preach humility and forgiveness.
