On the eve of large rallies, FBK will be declared an extremist organization
It is assumed that the action planned by the Anti-Corruption Foundation (ACF – an organization in Russia recognized as a foreign agent) on April 21 will be the last demonstration held by the supporters of Alexei Navalny. The Moscow prosecutor’s office filed a lawsuit to recognize ACF and Navalny’s headquarters as extremist organizations. The success of the action will lead to tougher police actions against the protesters and increased attention even to those who donated money for the activities of the ACF.
On Sunday, April 18, ACF called on supporters to come to the central squares of cities on the day of the President’s message to the Federal Assembly (April 21).
According to Leonid Volkov (the head of Navalny’s headquarters) the announcement of the ACF as an extremist organization can lead to a complete cessation of activities. The development of such a precedent means a ban on peaceful political activity in Russia. In this regard, the action on April 21 is capable of preventing the country from “plunging into darkness”.
It is worth noting that ACF is ready to organize the action earlier than it was going to: before that, the organizers planned to collect email and physical addresses of five hundred thousand people on the website free.navalny.com. As we predicted earlier, at the moment the data ended up in the hands of third parties.
The organizers explain the current state of affairs by the state of health of Navalny. According to the attending doctors of the liberal oppositionist, his condition is close to critical, he is at risk of cardiac arrest due to disfunction pf potassium metabolism. Despite the fact that on April 19, Navalny was transferred to a prison hospital, the politician’s supporters are not planning to cancel the action.
“It’s clear that from the harsh colony Navalny was transferred to a hospital-type torture chamber, where people were turned into disabled people”, said oppositioner Ilya Yashin on his Instagram.
The international situation is also becoming fiercer. The leadership of the European Union demanded to admit doctors to Navalny: the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the Assistant to the President of the United States for National Security Jake Sullivan spoke up in defense of Navalny.
“Russia has been warned of the consequences if Navalny dies in prison”, Sullivan said.
It cannot be ruled out that Navalny today is one of the subjects of bargaining on the international imperialist arena, promising profits for the big business of the Russian Federation. Meanwhile, the benefits for the Russian people still remain elusive: today, Navalny’s supporters and those who are simply “passing by” are faced with increased interest from the authorities. After the ACF rallies held in early 2021, the police showed up to some of the participants in the events right on the doorstep of the apartment.
Undoubtedly, the situation around Navalny is beneficial to the Russian establishment. The oppositioner in prison is a trump card in the sleeve. The declaration of the ACF as an extremist organization is a pretext for the deployment of massive political repressions against the liberal opposition. And from there they will reach to the left movement very soon. Colleagues, do not expose yourself to the blow of the repressive machine, this is not the time to go under a false flag. A spontaneous protest is an ineffective protest.
