While the authorities in Russia and Ukraine are trying to get rid of Lenin, in Germany it is planned to erect a monument to the leader of the world proletariat. In March 2020, the monument of Lenin will appear in the city of Gelsenkirchen. It is significant that this is a city in western Germany, where they always tried to destroy communist symbols.
The erection of Lenin’s monument in Gelsenkirchen became possible thanks to the efforts of the Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany (MLPD). The Communists from this party managed to get a rare statue cast in the Soviet Union in the 30s of the last century. It is reported that this is a very rare sculpture of historical and cultural value. The statue will be erected in front of the Horst Center, the federal headquarters of the MLPD. The solemn meeting in honor of the monument opening will be held on March 14 at 16:30 at the intersection of Schmalhorststrasse and An der Rennbahn. The date was not chosen by chance; the day before, the Germans would celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Ruhr Red Army.
Commenting on the decision to erect the monument, the MLPD Chairperson Gaby Fehtner stated:
“This will be the prologue of the “Anti-Communism Without a Chance” movement throughout the federation [i.e. Germany – Ed.]. While monuments to communists and revolutionaries are still being demolished in Europe, when more and more right-wing governments, such as in Hungary, prohibit communist symbols, we will consciously establish this sign against anti-communism, which is the state religion in Germany as well. The scandal in Thuringia, where they elected the prime minister with the votes of AdG [“Alternative for Germany”, the far-right populist party – Ed.], Showed where anti-communism leads. To direct the main blow against the Communists and Marxists-Leninists, to equalize the left and right, to provide a place for anti-communism as the worldview justification of fascism – this is what made the movement of governments to the right possible”.
It was also noted in the speech that the upcoming installation of the monument did not leave the townspeople indifferent. Supporters of the right perceived this as a provocation, and many others as a bold gesture against the amendment of society. The MLPD leader emphasized that the party is ready for public discussion. A propaganda campaign will be held in the city a week before installation.
It is possible that the authorities will prevent the monument erection.
