Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova said that she considers the incomes of average Russians to be small. This was said on the Pozner program on Channel One.
“This is a very difficult topic, because from region to region the level of average wages is very different. If my memory serves me right, about 47,000 is the average salary in Russia, which includes Moscow. If you multiply 47 thousand by 12 (months) – is that a lot? This is not enough,” Golikova said.
The fact that the country’s top officials openly talk about the financial problems of Russians on the country’s main television channel certainly warms the soul, but it does not lead to any important changes. Moreover, the sympathetic rhetoric of state-owned media is often a distracting maneuver designed to leave the dirty business of the authorities in the background.
Thus, no matter how much one would like to believe in the sincerity of the intentions of Mrs. Golikova, her speech is more populism and an attempt to show the authorities’ concern for ordinary people, while they only care about their own wallets.
