Conflict at Moscow school: education ombudsman is fighting teachers
In a Moscow language school, a labor conflict is erupting more and more, because of the teachers’ salaries being cut. Interestingly, one of its main characters is Amet Volodarsky, the founder of the Institute of Foreign Languages. This person also appears to be an “ombudsman in the field of education,” and he also plays an active role in bullying the teachers who demand payment of the earned money.
The conflict began after the school administration unilaterally announced to the employees about salary reductions due to the “crisis”. However, no rational justification for this step was presented; the load on teachers and assistants has not decreased, the number of students has not decreased, the amount of work has remained the same. Some employees were outraged by what was happening and demanded that they get paid their full salary. This requirement was made easier by the fact that the labor contract recorded the obligation of the employer to pay the bonus part when the employees performed their duties in good faith.
The school administration decided to “deal” with the obstinate employees in the traditional way for Russian capitalists, which is shouting, threatening and bullying. The teachers shared fragments of the correspondence with our editors. It is obvious that the officials did not bother to comply with the law and often demonstrated their own legal illiteracy. In particular, they tried to declare the current labor contracts “fictitious” and, under this pretext, demanded that the employees conclude new contracts. Also, one of the employees of the administration sent an e-mail “order to remove from work”, not signed and not certified by anyone.
The confrontation reached its peak when Amet Aleksandrovich Volodarsky, the founder of the Institute of Foreign Languages, and also the founder of this language school, stepped into the “conversation”. This person often gives comments to major news agencies and television channels; according to public sources data, he is the Chairman of one of the commissions under the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as the Ombudsman for Education under the Presidential Commissioner for the Protection of Entrepreneurs’ Rights.
What did the school staff hear from Mr. Volodarsky? The demand to “leave his school” and finish all the paperwork within three days. These are the demands of the man who publicly discusses the rights of teachers and their hard work.
Despite the psychological pressure and hysterical attacks of the school management, the staff intends to continue the struggle for their rights. According to them, it became known that a corresponding statement had already been sent to the name of one of the deputies of the Moscow City Duma, who gave his consent to deal with this conflict. At the same time, individual applications were sent to the prosecutor’s office and labor inspectorate. Information coverage of the conflict is also expanding; parents of schoolchildren, shocked by the actions of the administration, joined the case.
ROT FRONT provides and will continue to provide unconditional support to workers who have embarked on the path of struggle for their rights.
We are publishing a copy of the appeal to the deputy of the Moscow City Duma, Elena Yanchuk.
