Chinese-made combat radio sets were supplied to the Ministry of Defense as the ones made in Russia

How to steal a billion

During the investigation of alleged fraud in the supply of Azart combat radio sets for the Russian Defense Ministry, 6.7 billion rubles were stolen, LENTA.RU reports. The former head of the 1st Department of Communications of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Major General Alexander Ogloblin, told investigators that radio sets nearly completed were purchased in China, then slightly modified in Russia, and passed off as domestically-produced items.

Ogloblin is being prosecuted in the case of embezzlement of budget funds during state purchases through Voentelecom Inc and Angstrem NPO Inc together with the former Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the RF Armed Forces, Colonel-General Khalil Arslanov.

This “technique” allowed high-ranking military officials to “save” almost a third of the total contract amount (18.5 billion rubles).

Not justifying the embezzlement at all, I would like to ask the state authorities a question: “Where do domestic-made radio sets suddenly come from?”

We have already stated many times before that the Russian military-industrial complex is in an extremely deplorable state nowadays. But, apparently, this is not the last publication on the issue.

Back in 2011, after the Yak-42 plane crash with the Lokomotiv hockey team on board, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that if the Russian industry is not capable of producing high-quality equipment, it should be purchased abroad. They began to zealously follow this instruction.

And, as we can see, things like that happens not only in the aviation industry. Now we are buying Chinese radio sets and putting Russian “nameplates” on them. And we keep destroying our factories “as unnecessary” these days.

The decay of a society in which the main criterion of “success” is the size of the bank account, supported by the decaying state of the economy, will generate more and more money laundering schemes.

If someone thinks that such a situation is characteristic exclusively of Russian capitalism, we suggest that you have a look at the US experience.

The capitalists do not need planes, combat radio sets, or any kind of high technology. Capitalists need profit. By all means.
